Katie Sackhoff Now Denies She Ever Hinted at a Role for Herself in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe

Only last week we reported on an interview Katie Sackhoff gave on the Schmoes Know podcast in where she sort of hinted she may have been talking with Marvel and Disney about her upcoming availability. Now, I’ll admit when I heard this I immediately jumped – ever so hopefully – to the conclusion this meant they might be eyeing her for the role of Captain Marvel. A character we’re all just waiting to be announced as joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because come on, Carol Danvers NEEDS a movie, or at least a role in one.

Since then, Sackhoff has been making it blatantly clear we all heard wrong. In no way did she say Disney or Marvel had been inquiring about her schedule. I’ll leave it to you to go back and listen to her interview on the podcast to see if she’s lying, ’cause I’m pretty sure that is what was said, however awkwardly. Anyway, here’s what Sackhoff is saying now,

You know, you say one thing… People love a good story, even if it’s a story that has very little truth to it. If you go back and actually listen to what I said, I said that people have checked my availability. I never said Marvel [or] Disney so it’s interesting how people twist stories to serve an agenda that makes people click on their site, or sell their papers.

I absolutely have not spoken to Marvel. It doesn’t mean that my team hasn’t spoken to Marvel. I personally have not spoken to Marvel and have no plans to do a movie in the immediate future, because number one I’m tied up with Somnia which is a fantastic place to be. It’s exactly where I wanted to be.

Yeah, yeah, I hear ya trying to wiggle out this one, Sackhoff, by saying your people may have spoken to Marvel, but you haven’t. I see what you’re doing here. It’s the age old “I didn’t say it, but I’m not really denying it either” trick. And in the world of superheroes and the actors who will play them, that’s the usual response until something’s confirmed.

That being said, were things to develop in such a way that Marvel would seek Sackhoff for Carol Danvers, she’s all for it,

Yeah, I’m sure if we dug deep enough there is a sect of fans that don’t want me for Ms. Marvel so let’s just leave it at they want me for Ms. Marvel and that’d be fantastic. I would love to do the role. Of course I would love to do the role. I think that it’s in my wheelhouse and I would enjoy it. I’d be stupid to turn down a Marvel movie but as far as I know, Ms. Marvel isn’t even in the next movie.

As far as we know Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel isn’t in the next Avengers, either, but like I said above she’s probably one of the most anticipated characters to join the film franchise. Where do you stand on this whole Sackhoff as Captain Marvel business? Is it something you’d like to see? Do you think it secretly is happening? Behind the scenes? As we speak!?
